Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced his first 50-member cabinet following his swearing-in earlier this week. Rahman retained the defense portfolio while appointing senior politician and businessman Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury to steer the finance ministry in a move aimed at addressing economic challenges.

Rahman assumed office after succeeding the interim administration led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, which had governed the country for 18 months following the ouster of the Awami League government headed by Sheikh Hasina in 2024.

Pakistan’s leadership engaged with Bangladesh’s incoming administration both before and after the elections. Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal also held a meeting with Prime Minister Rahman.
