ISLAMABAD, September 21, 2024 21 (TDI): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar will not proceed to New York for the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly due to important diplomatic commitments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Saturday.
In a statement issued here Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch also pointed out that preparations for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, to be held in Islamabad from October 15-16, is also the reason that the foreign minister is not attending the UNGA meeting.

However, she made it clear that Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s schedule for participation in the Session will remain unchanged.
The statement about Dar not attending the session was issued by a section of media’s speculations.
Earlier reports suggested that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York from September 23 to 27, 2024 and the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister along with senior government officials would accompany him.

In his address at the UNGA, the PM will reaffirm Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to multilateralism and support for the UN’s role in fostering global peace, security, and prosperity.
The PM is also scheduled to attend several high-level meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA session besides bilateral meetings with the leaders from other country.
A meeting with the UN secretary-general and the president of the UNGA, and engagements with members of the Pakistani diaspora are also on the agenda.
