Dar to Meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on July 25

Washington (TDI): In a major sign of renewed diplomatic momentum between Pakistan and the United States, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is slated to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on July 25 in Washington.

The meeting follows his stop in New York, where he will attend a series of high-level engagements at the United Nations, according to Dawn.

This will be the first senior-level bilateral meeting between the two nations since President Donald Trump’s luncheon with Pakistan’s military chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, a development that had sparked global interest. The last such high-profile contact occurred nearly a decade ago, making this encounter a potential turning point in US-Pakistan relations.

During his stay in the US, Dar will lead several key sessions in line with Pakistan’s current role as President of the UN Security Council. Among them is an open debate focused on fostering international peace and security through multilateral approaches and conflict resolution.

He is also expected to chair the Security Council’s periodic discussion on the Middle East, with specific attention on the Palestinian issue, and will head a briefing dedicated to enhancing collaboration between the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

In addition, Dar will participate in a conference examining pathways to peacefully resolve the Palestinian question and the implementation of the two-state solution.

However, the most anticipated element of his visit remains the meeting with Secretary Rubio, a move widely seen as a signal that strategic dialogue between Washington and Islamabad is back on track after years of muted interaction.

This renewed engagement comes on the heels of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb’s visit to Washington, where he met with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. The two sides explored the possibility of a long-discussed trade and tariff agreement.
