Hong Kong (TDI): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Friday termed the creation of International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) a major step in reinforcing multilateralism and promoting diplomacy over confrontation in the new era of mediation.
The signing ceremony of the Convention establishing IOMed was organized in Hong Kong, with Ishaq Dar representing Pakistan at the historic event.
Addressing the high-profile event, he praised the visionary leadership of China for spearheading the creation of IOMed.
Dar appreciated Beijing for once again leading a transformative initiative comparable in impact to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
He said that Pakistan reaffirmed its devotion to peaceful conflict resolution by becoming a founding member of the newly established International Organization for Mediation (IOMed).

Dar termed the establishment of IOMed as “the birth of an important international institution dedicated to mediation and peaceful resolution of conflicts,” and acknowledged the selection of Hong Kong as the organization’s headquarters. Terming Hong Kong a “super connector,” Dar said it has a symbolic value in bridging East and West.
Reiterating Islamabad’s dedication to the UN Charter norms and international law, Dar underlined Pakistan’s recent efforts, including the establishment of the International Mediation and Arbitration Center (IMAC) in Pakistan, aimed at advocating commercial dispute resolution.

He also used the platform to draw attention to major international disputes, citing unresolved problems like Jammu and Kashmir and the occupied Palestinian territories, cautining against the rise of unilateralism and populism.
He slammed India for its recent military aggression and disregard for international agreements like the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), terming such actions as a threat to regional and international peace.
Stressing the importance of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Global Security Initiative, Dar stated the vision aligns with Pakistan’s commitment to a UN-centric international peace architecture based on dialogue, justice, and win-win cooperation.
