Cuba wins its second gold medal in boxing

Tokyo: 4 August 2021 (TDI): Arlen Lopez, a Cuban boxer won a gold medal in the men’s light heavy division, in the Olympics 2020. Benjamin Whittaker, a boxer of Great Britain won the silver medal in this division.

Before this, Lopez had won a gold medal middleweight division at Rio 2016. He shared, “When you saw me enter the room I was speaking with my family in Cuba. They were very, very happy obviously so I took some minutes in order to speak with them on the way here. To see them, to see their happiness, to share with them this happy moment. The sacrifice that I’ve made, the efforts that I’ve made, they’ve supported me. We’re here saluting our families.”

Before Lopez, Roniel Iglesias won the first gold medal for Cuba in Boxing in the Men’s welterweight on Tuesday.
