Algiers, 6 July 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Cuba, Bruno Rodriguez held a meeting with the Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Mekdad, on July 5. The Foreign Ministers are visiting Algeria for celebrations of 60 years of its independence.

Agenda of the Meeting

In the meeting, the Cuban Foreign Minister affirmed the strength and depth of the friendly relations between Cuba and Syria.

Both the Foreign Ministers discussed topics of interest on the bilateral and international agenda, during the meeting.

After the meeting, Foreign Minister Rodriguez took to his Twitter and shared the news of the meeting of the officials. In his tweet, he ratified the historic ties of friendship and solidarity between the countries and the will to continue strengthening political relations.

Cuban-Syrian Bilateral Relations: An Overview

Syria is among one of the strongest allies of Cuba in the Middle East.

Over the years, the representatives of both states have met on various occasions and discussed collective prosperity through healthy diplomatic relations.

In 2018, both states emphasized intensifying cooperation between the Friendship Association of People’s Assembly in Syria and the Cuban National Association.

In recent years, Cuba and Syria have extended their participation in various sectors through different agreements. They have advanced cooperation in the fields of economy, science, technology, health, and education.

Cuba and Syria have also collaborated in the media sector. The leading agencies of Cuba and Syria i.e., Prensa Latina and SANA, respectively, have collaborated through agreements. The main purpose of this collaboration is to broadcast the reality in the Levant nation, among other aspects.

Syria and Cuba have always shown joint resistance in confronting all the external dictates on their people. In addition to that, Cuba always provides support to the people of Syria in times of crisis.
