London, 6 July 2022 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Bahrain participated in the International Ministerial Conference on Freedom of Religion or Belief in London.

Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Foreign Minister of Bahrain, highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts to consolidate tolerance among all religions. Further, the Minister praised the efforts of the Kingdom in constructing dialogue and common understanding between all religions.

He reiterated that the Kingdom respects the human rights of all irrespective of their religion. Freedom of religion is guaranteed following the directives of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, he added.

The statements came in his speech at the International Ministerial Conference on Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) held on Tuesday. Al Zayani expressed his gratitude to participate in the ministerial conference.

At the conference, the Minister shed light on the Kingdom’s efforts in promoting freedom of religion and belief. He praised the leadership of the Kingdom for ensuring values of love and religious tolerance under the rule of law.

Further, Al Zayani stated that “Freedom to practise religious rites is guaranteed to all within a framework of friendship and mutual respect between societies of different religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.”

“There is the presence of mosques, churches, and other places of worship, and the most recent inauguration of Our Lady of Arabia Cathedral” he added.

Increased efforts for promoting tolerance

Al Zayani also discussed the National Human Rights Plan (2022-2026) of the Kingdom. The national plan talks about the promotion of religious freedom and peaceful coexistence. In addition, it also promotes acceptance of other religions, beliefs, races, civilizations, and national harmony.

The plan aims to achieve this harmony and unity through media, educational, religious, and legislative programs and initiatives. These will take place in accordance with the constitution of the Kingdom.

The Minister praised the Kingdom’s efforts in organizing conferences on freedom of religion at the regional level. Al Zayani further affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to safeguarding religious rights, freedom of religion, and consolidating regional and global peace.

He also noted the importance of constructive cooperation between nations to promote the spirit of love and sustainable development.

Lord Tariq Ahmed, Minister of State Foreign Commonwealth and Development Affairs, also discussed areas of collaboration between the UK and Bahrain to promote freedom of religion or belief.
