New York, 14 September 2022 (TDI): Casaba Körösi, a Hungarian Diplomat, took oath as the new President of the 77th UNGA session 2022.

Previously, he also served as the director of Environmental Sustainability at the office of the President of Hungary. He was elected by the UN General Assembly in June 2022.

However, the oath-taking ceremony took place at the opening session of UNGA 2022 on the 13th of September. He succeeded Abdulla Shahid of Maldives the President of the 76th UNGA session.

In the opening ceremony, the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres thanked the former President of UNGA for his devotion and services. He then warmly welcomed Casaba Körösi as the new President of UNGA 2022.

In his first speech at the UNGA Session 2022, Casaba Körösi reaffirmed his commitment to the UN Charter. He also congratulated the Former President, Abdullah Shahid, for his achievements.

Furthermore, he discussed the challenges faced by the globe, climate change, food insecurity, conflicts and wars, global inflation, water scarcity, and health issues.

He then added that the risk of using weapons of mass destruction is at its peak right now. He suggested that it is time to put more effort into disarmament and non-proliferation.

Next, the President said that the world cannot go back to normal as we have witnessed after the pandemic. We must transform ourselves for the better and for that transformation, Agenda 2030 of Sustainable development goals will be the beacon.

He further added that his priorities will be to make significant and measurable progress on the sustainability transformation, aim at integrated systemic solutions, enhance the role of science in decision-shaping, and increase solidarity.

The motto of Casaba Körösi as the President of UNGA Session 2022 will be “Solutions through solidarity, sustainability, and science.”
