Xining, 12 September 2023 (TDI): The International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the CPC Qinghai Provincial Committee jointly hosted a thematic briefing on September 12.
The event took place in Xining, the picturesque capital city of Qinghai Province, with a resounding theme of “Chinese Modernization: Harmony Between Humanity and Nature.” More than 150 political party leaders and representatives hailed from nearly 30 countries.
The event provided a valuable opportunity for global leaders and scholars to engage in discussions and learn from China’s experiences under the guiding principles of Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
The opening ceremony featured prominent political figures from the CPC Central Committee and Qinghai Provincial Committee.
While speaking at the briefing, Minister Liu Jianchao, highlighted China’s efforts since 2012 to improve ecological civilization, achieving milestones such as 87.9% drinkable water, a 1.02 million plant initiative for air quality, and contributing 25% of global green areas.
Moreover, he emphasized China’s role in addressing climate change, marine pollution, and biodiversity while highlighting the link to Chinese modernization.

Chen Gang, CCP Qinghai Provincial Committee Secretary, stressed Qinghai’s UN recognition as the fourth pollution-free ultra-clean area and the importance of the Qinghai-Tibet plateau in preventing desertification.
He also highlighted the Party’s commitment to ecological progress, wildlife successes (70,000 Tibet Antelopes, 1,200 Snow Leopards), bird species diversity, and national park development.
Clean energy goals (carbon peaking by 2030, neutrality by 2060) and Qinghai’s solar and hydro-solar-wind projects were discussed at the event.
Climate scientist Li Bao Xing from the China Atmospheric Baseline Observatory in Hainan Prefecture, Qinghai Province, discussed their work on global warming.
He highlighted the government’s efforts in advancing atmospheric research and introduced the Wali Guan curve, developed over nearly three decades based on observatory data.
Dukong, head of the Huangsang Temple Ranger Station in Engineer Mountain National Park, is one of 145,000 dedicated rangers in the province.
His team’s hard work led to capturing an image of four snow leopards using infrared cameras. They also recorded the first islet sighting in the area as well as an increase in wildlife like wild donkeys, wild sheep, white-lipped deer, and blue sheep.
Yang Xiong Zhong of Qinghai Salt Lake Industry Group discussed Chaerhan Salt Lake, China’s largest salt lake in the Chaidam Basin.
It’s a crucial resource for lithium production, with around 70% of the world’s lithium resources in salt lakes. Qinghai Province has 14.6 million tons of lithium carbonate, comprising 43% of China’s total lithium reserves.
Sonanxi, Deputy Headmaster of Changjiang Yuan Minzu School, highlighted their inspiring journey at a recent event.
