Court Martial Proceedings Begins Against Gen Hameed After Evidences: ISPR

Rawalpindi, September 05, 2024 (TDI)–  The court martial trial against former ISI Chief Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed was initiated based on “concrete evidence” following an in-depth probe, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) spokesperson said on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference in Rawalpindi on Thursday, ISPR Director General (DG) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said the Pakistan Army believes in self-accountability.

He clarified that Pakistan Army is neither against nor in favour of any political party in the country.

The DG ISPR said that Gen Faiz’s court-martial as an example of the military’s self-accountability.

“Following a detailed inquiry based on concrete evidence, the Pakistan Army announced on August 12, 2024, that the relevant officer (Gen Faiz) had violated sections of the Army Act.”

He added that the army found Gen Hameed, who was arrested last month, to be involved in “several instances of violation of the Army Act”, following which the field general court-martial proceedings against the former spymaster had been initiated.

The DG ISPR said that enemies are exploiting sense of deprivation in Baluchistan and promotes a narrative in this connection.

To a question on recent incidents of terrorism in Baluchistan trends of unrest there, he said that a narrative for inculcating sense of deprivation is promoted for a purpose and there are foreign elements behind all this scene. They are even providing intellectual support to terror in the province besides other assistance to such elements, he added.

He said that developmental projects and workers working on these projects are targeted with the aim to enhance hardships of the people in the province and their narrative for sense of deprivation could be strengthened.

The DG ISPR, while accepting that sense of deprivation do exist in Baluchistan, cited examples of a number of Baloch who are working in high ranks at national and international level and enjoy power saying they are “our proud, Baluchistan is our proud”.

Recalling the attacks carried out by militants on the night between August 25 and 26 in the province, the spokesperson said “We know that there is a sense of deprivation in Baluchistan [….] The perpetrators of terrorism have nothing to do with Islam or Baluchistan,”.

He gave clear message to the terrorists carrying out terrorist attacks in Balochistan along with those on whose behest they are being carried out, saying they will be dealt with iron hands.

The presser comes in the wake of growing terrorist attacks that have resulted in dozens of civilians and members of security forces in recent weeks.

The DG ISPR, said that 32,173 IBOs operations were carried out against terrorists and their facilitators across the country in the first eight months this year. At least 90 Khwarij were sent to hell in the past 30 days.”

He further said that around 130 IBOs are carried out on a daily basis by the Pakistan Army, intelligence agencies, police and LEAs. In these operations,193 officers and soldiers embraced martyrdom.

Highlighting the achievements against the militants, he revealed that the army along with the LEAs has cleared an area spanning 46,000 square kilometres from terrorists.

He also stressed strengthening the country’s criminal justice system and taking other steps for defeating terrorism.

Addressing the surge in terror incidents since the Afghan Taliban-led administration came to power in Kabul, DG ISPR said that those attempting to create discord between the two brotherly nations are “living in an imaginary world”.
