Washington, 31 August 2023 (TDI):  The successful conclusion of the recent working tour led by Costa Rican President, Rodrigo Chaves Robles underscored the strong diplomatic ties between Costa Rica & the United States (US), bringing highly favorable outcomes.

The Costa Rican delegation raised important matters related to immigration, security, and trade with the US President, Joe Biden during their visit to the US.

This meeting between the two counterparts strengthened the bilateral relationship and cooperation between the two states. It is pertinent to note that this visit of the Costa Rican President to the US White House is the first one in 17 years.

This meeting between the US President and the Costa Rican delegation lasted for one hour and fifteen minutes which signifies a significant gesture towards a leader from the region.

The Costa Rican Chancellor Arnoldo André, who was also present in the meeting emphasized that the visit signifies Costa Rica as a steadfast democratic ally of the US in the American region.

Moreover, it displays the republic’s commitment to human rights, upholding law, and order while also protecting individual freedom. While also boosting the trade, cooperation efforts, and diplomatic ties between the two states.

The Costa Rican President during his visit participated in the US Institute for Peace event. He shared his vision of democracy’s significance and also pinpointed the common values between the US and Costa Rica.

In addition, he also emphasized the importance of international engagement and cooperation for strengthening democracy and its preservation.

Health and Medical Research

Furthermore, a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed during the meeting with the US National Cancer Institute. This agreement would strengthen collaboration between the two states in the field of health and medical research.

Additionally, this displays the shared commitments between the US and Costa Rica in combating diseases and protecting their population.

Immigration

Another achievement for the Costa Rican delegation was the signing of the initiation of the last phase of the Global Entry Program. This initiative will improve the immigration process for both US citizens and Costa Ricans.

This cooperation will improve trade and tourism ties between the countries. Also, the countries reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation on migration matters as fundamental for their bilateral relationship.

Cybersecurity

During a public event hosted by the US Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) the two state representatives engaged in a dialogue regarding cybersecurity.

The US Deputy Secretary Richard Verma, US Ambassador Nathan Fick, and the US Deputy National Security Advisor Anne Neuberger emphasized the importance of cooperation in protecting digital assets and enhancing cyber defense.

The last day of the visit included a working lunch between the US Undersecretary Verma along Costa Rican counterparts including the Foreign Trade, Security, Science, and Communication Ministries.

Costa Rica declared this tour a success in strengthening bilateral ties between the US and Costa Rica as strategic allies in the fields of Medicine, Security, Trade, and Tourism.
