Islamabad, 12 August 2022 (TDI): The Coordinator-General of COMSTECH, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, met with the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Malaysia, Amna Baloch, on Friday.

The meeting took place at the Pakistan High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Coordinator-General of COMSTECH proposed forming an alliance of Islamic universities, the founding meeting of which would be held in Islamabad.

The High Commissioner received the proposal well and assured him of her support. The Pakistan High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is on the board of governors of the International Islamic University of Malaysia and serves as an ASIAN regional focal point.

Moreover, the Coordinator-General informed the High Commissioner about MiGHT and TUBITAK‘s participation in the COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence.

Both dignitaries talked about the possibilities for COMSTECH and ICCBS collaboration with Malaysia.

Furthermore, the High Commissioner and the Coordinator-General agreed to structure and launch the fellowships program for Malaysia and other ASIAN member countries in consultation with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

COMSTECH

The Third Islamic Summit of the OIC, convened in KSA in January 1981, created COMSTECH, the OIC’s Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation. The President of Pakistan chairs COMSTECH.

Its fundamental imperative is to increase collaboration among the OIC Member States in science and technology (S&T) and optimize their operations.

Accordingly, it aims to do so by training in emerging sectors, performing follow-up actions, executing OIC decisions, and developing plans and recommending measures to increase the functionality of Muslim nations in science and technology

Therefore, the ultimate goal is to create and sustain a scientific culture and use science and technology as key contributors to socio-economic growth.

Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary is currently serving as the Coordinator-General of COMSTECH

He is a world-renowned medicinal chemist with 1,175 research publications in international organic and bioorganic chemistry journals.

He has received the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz awards from several Pakistani administrations.
