Abu Dhabi, 17 August 2022 (TDI): The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan, Qamar Javed Bajwa called on Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The President of the UAE warmly welcomed the COAS of Pakistan. During the meeting, both the dignitaries held discussions on matters of mutual interest as well as bilateral defense and security cooperation. Moreover, the two sides also discussed the regional security situation.
The COAS was conferred the Order of the Union Medal by the President of UAE. The medal was conferred in recognition of the Chief’s significant contributions in promoting bilateral ties between the two countries.
Further, the two leaders agreed that UAE and Pakistan share a great history of cordial and friendly relations. Likewise, the people of the states share a deep-rooted spirit of brotherhood which is transforming into an enduring partnership.
Earlier, COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa visited UAE in May 2022. He offered condolences to President on the death of Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Former President of UAE.
Pakistan and UAE Relations
In 1971, Pakistan was among the first countries which recognized the federation of 7 Emirates and established diplomatic relations. The two states marked the 50th anniversary of their exemplary friendship and diplomatic ties last year.
Moreover, Pakistan and UAE’s relations are based on ideological affinities, along with economic and political cooperation. The two countries closely align in promoting regional peace and development.
Apart from this, the UAE is one of the largest trading partners of Pakistan. Last year, Pakistan’s exports to UAE were around US 1.17 Billion dollars. The two states also supported each other during the COVID-19 Pandemic, by trading essential supplies to tackle those challenging circumstances.
Further, there has been frequent exchange of official visits between the states, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation. Recently, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif visited UAE and had an interactive meeting with the President of UAE.
