CM Maryam Invites Chinese Tech Firms to Invest in Punjab

GUANGZHOU, (TDI): On the sixth day of her eight-day visit to China, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif invited Chinese technology companies to establish operations in Punjab during a roundtable investment conference in Guangzhou.

In response to her invitation, several Chinese tech firms expressed strong interest in investing in Punjab, with Maryam assuring them of full support through a one-window operation to facilitate their operations.

The conference, attended by representatives from over 60 prominent companies from China and Hong Kong, saw the Chief Minister announce the creation of a working group, the appointment of a dedicated focal person, and the setup of a help desk to streamline processes for investors.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif was briefed by company representatives, who presented detailed proposals on potential investments. The Chief Minister reviewed the recommendations and discussed strategies to promote Pak-China free trade.

Calling Punjab a “land of opportunity,” Maryam highlighted the province’s strategic geographical location, economic potential, and thriving business environment, thanking the Chinese companies for their participation in the conference.

The representatives from Chinese companies expressed their appreciation for the Chief Minister’s vision, particularly praising her initiative to launch the no-plastic campaign in Punjab.

Maryam further outlined the provincial government’s focus on renewable energy, emphasizing investments in windmills, solar power, and other sustainable energy sources to reduce electricity costs. She also highlighted a major solarization project to meet the growing demand for solar energy in Punjab, welcoming the involvement of Chinese companies in this initiative.

“The response from Chinese investors to strengthen Pak-China relations is truly encouraging,” she said.
