CICA Secretary General Visits Pakistan, Meets Ishaq Dar

Islamabad, 21 August 2024 (TDI): Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar welcomed Ambassador Kairat Sarybay, Secretary General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).  Kairat Sarybay is on an official visit to Pakistan.

The Foreign Minister stated that Pakistan is deeply committed to the principles of CICA. National objectives are aligned to serve peace and stability. He also emphasized Pakistan’s active participation in advancing CICA’s goals of enhancing security and cooperation. In the meeting, he highlighted Pakistan’s consistent involvement in various CICA initiatives. He further asserted that peace in Asia can be achieved through comprehensive strategies that promote long-term development in the region.

Ambassador Sarybay’s Appreciation and Recommendations

Ambassador Kairat Sarybay also appreciated Pakistan’s active role. He suggested that Pakistan should remain consistent to advance CICA’s objectives and promote dialogue and cooperation in the region for future betterment. He said that Pakistan has always been a strong supporter of CICA’s mission and he is looking forward to continuing “our close cooperation”.

Ambassador Kairat Sarybay stressed the importance of the multifaceted challenges facing Asia such as terrorism, economic downfall, climate change, and disputed territories. FM Ishaq Dar shared Pakistan’s position as a gateway to Central Asia and the Middle East, drawing importance to development, trade facilitation and cooperation in Asia. The meeting discussed the growing security tensions such as the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and cyber warfare. Pakistan expressed its interest contributing in to CICA’s efforts.

FM Ishaq Dar and Ambassador Kairat Sarybay committed to working with CICA member states for a stable region. They urge collaborative efforts in addressing environmental changes, poverty, and unemployment.

In the end, Ambassador Kairat Sarybay thanked Pakistan for the warm welcome and hospitality and expressed commitment to work together to achieve a secure future in Asia. “CICA is always standing to resolve complex challenges which Asia faces,” he said in his conclusive remarks.
