On World Migratory Bird Day, governments, birdwatchers, communities, and conservation organizations come together to support and advocate the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats.
The Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) while conveying their wishes said, “The presence of insects greatly influences the timing, duration, and overall success of bird migrations. Many birds’ journeys coincide with peak insect abundance in their stopover areas.”
Moreover, the United Nations’ Environmental Program also shared their thoughts. “World Migratory Bird Day spotlights insects, crucial for migratory birds during their extensive travels and breeding periods. Yet, threats like pesticide use and habitat loss jeopardize these vital partners. Taking action to protect insects and birds is pivotal for the health of both ecosystems.”
Additionally, The World-Wide Fund for Nature Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan) highlighted, “Over the years, there has been a decrease in migratory bird populations that rely on insects for survival. This World Migratory Bird Day, let’s focus on protecting both birds and insects to ensure the well-being of migratory birds across their flyways.”
