Beijing, 28 October 2021 (TDI): Chinese and American senior officials talked in a video call. They talked about the bilateral economic relations.

Chinese Vice Premier, Liu He, the head of Chinese side of the China-US comprehensive economic dialogue talked with the American Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen on 26 October 2021, Tuesday. They discussed the economic relations of the two states. The two sides emphasized enhancing economic cooperation which is in the greater interest of both states.

They agreed that trade relations and economic cooperation is very important for the stable relations of the two sides. Bilateral as well as multilateral economic cooperation was discussed in the meeting.

Removal of American Tariffs

The two sides also discussed the macroeconomic situation and its challenges. Chinese Vice Premier raised the point of tariffs. He stressed that the additional tariffs and sanctions on Chinese companies are unfair.

He urged American official to remove the additional tariffs. Biden administration is also showing leniency towards China and it might lift the tariffs. The additional tariffs were made under the previous American President Trump’s trade policy.

Increase in bilateral communications

The bilateral talks show that both sides believe in cooperation and diplomacy. The two sides are ready to solve their problems by engaging with each other. It was the second meeting on trade between the two sides in this month. The communication between China and the United States is increasing gradually.

American President Joe Biden talked with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in September on phone call. In addition to that, Chinese top diplomat Yang Jiechi also met with the US National Security Advisor Antony Blinken in Switzerland on 6 October 2022. The two countries look forward in enhancing their communication in order to strengthen their relations.
