Chinese PM due in Islamabad ‏Monday

Islamabad (TDI): Chinese Premier Li Qiang will arrive in Islamabad today (Monday) on a four-day visit to Pakistan for SCO summit and bilateral talks with Pakistan.

His visit was scheduled after the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and bilateral talks between Pakistan and China would mainly focus on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

During the visit, Premier Li Qiang will attend the 23rd meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). His address at the summit is expected to focus on key regional issues and cooperation.

Premier Li will be accompanied by ministers and senior officials of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Commerce, the National Development and Reform Commission and the China International Development Cooperation Agency.

According to state-run broadcaster, Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Premier Li Qiang will lead their respective delegations to discuss all aspects of Pakistan-China relations including economic and trade ties and cooperation under CPEC.

Last month at an event, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said the second phase of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would help Pakistan transform its economy.

“We are entering into the second phase of CPEC which has huge potential of mutual cooperation in the field of agriculture, Information Technology, mines and minerals and many other important areas of mutual interests,” the prime minister said.

The two sides will also discuss regional and global developments.
