New York, 29 November 2023 (TDI): As the Gaza Strip continues to suffer from violence, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged for an immediate and complete ceasefire and the implementation of the two-state solution on Tuesday.
He also expressed China’s support for the UN’s leading role in resolving the conflict between Palestine and Israel.
Wang met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the UN headquarters in New York, where he is expected to chair a UN Security Council high-level meeting on the Palestinian-Israeli issue as China holds the council’s rotating presidency this month.
Wang said that China has been in close contact with the Arab countries and relevant parties, and that the UN Security Council’s Resolution 2712 is the first step toward a ceasefire.
The Chinese diplomat also reiterated China’s stance on how to resolve the conflict between Palestine and Israel.
He said that the first priority is to prevent the war from resuming. He called for a full ceasefire to avoid more humanitarian tragedies and the release of the detainees.

Humanitarian aid should be able to reach Gaza without any obstacles. And he said that the two-state solution should be resumed as soon as possible, he added.
He also proposed that an international peace conference with more authority, wider participation and more effectiveness should be held as soon as possible to set up a road map and a timetable for the two-state solution.
The paragraph is based on the UN Security Council’s Resolution 2712, which was adopted earlier this month. The resolution urges for urgent and prolonged humanitarian pauses and corridors in Gaza.
UN Chief praised China’s “positive role” as the rotating president of the UNSC.
He said that the situation in Gaza is alarming, and that the civilian casualties, especially among children, are unprecedented and unacceptable.
He urged for more humanitarian aid and the simplification of procedures for the quick delivery of assistance.
