Chinese Foreign Minister talks with his Brazilian counterpart

Beijing, 22 October 2021 (TDI): The Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi talked with his Brazilian counterpart Carlos Franca through a video conference.

The two Foreign Ministers discussed bilateral relations. They discussed the trade relations and investment opportunities between the two countries. A digital economy that has huge importance in the contemporary world as well as in the future was also discussed.

The two counterparts also talked about the fight against Coronavirus. Coronavirus has posed challenges to the whole world. Countries are cooperating with each other in order to fight against this pandemic. They also talked about their mutual interests in G20 and in World Trade Organization. The two countries also discussed their common interests in BRICS. This is an organization consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. In the meeting, they also discussed United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. They talked about the emissions reduction targets set by the United Nations.

The two countries enjoy close relations. China has been the biggest trading partner of Brazil since 2009. The two countries’ bilateral trade has grown to 34 percent till September 2021. China has been one of the biggest sources of foreign investment in Brazil. The two Foreign Ministers also talked about enhancing their cooperation in the field of technology. They emphasized creating new channels for expanding cooperation between the two states.
