Tunxi, 30 March 2022 (TDI): Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, met the Russian Foreign Minister in Anhui Province, China. The meeting took place on March 30.
To clarify, the Russian Foreign Minister has arrived in China to attend the third meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries. However, the Chinese Foreign Minister will chair the meeting.
During the meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, stated that China and Russia have faced the challenges of the international situation in the right direction. Both countries have withstood difficult times and showed strengthened force for development initiatives.
In this context, Foreign Minister Wang Yi remarked that both sides are engaged to develop bilateral ties and collaboration in various areas. Besides, he said heads of both states have guided this bilateral relationship to reach a higher level.
In response, the Russian Foreign Minister applauded that heads of both states remained in contact at such a critical time. In addition to that, both leaders played a crucial role in advancing the bilateral relationship and promoting global multi-polarization.
Further, the Russian Foreign Minister highlighted the significance of mutual consensus of both heads for high-level strategic cooperation. He also opposed hegemony and power politics to uphold the principles and purposes of the UN Charter.
Ukraine Crisis
It is pertinent to note that the meeting also focused on the Ukrainian crisis. In this regard, the Russian Foreign Minister emphasized Russian determination to de-escalate the situation. He also reaffirmed to continue holding peace talks and negotiations for the resolution of the conflict.
Along these lines, the Chinese Foreign Minister pointed out that the international community is witnessing an age of changes and turbulences. Similarly, he said the history and origin of Ukraine are complex.
In this regard, he maintained that China has emphasized the peace and dialogue process instead of war and unilateral sanctions. Constructively, this approach will not only resolve the crisis but withstood the difficult times as well.
This complexity has arisen due to the cold-war mentality and security conflicts in Europe. But, he reaffirmed independent China’s position on just cause, objectivity, and a fair attitude.
Subsequently, he added that China makes judgments based on the matter itself. Likewise, China observes the principles and purposes of the UN Charter. In this matter, he said that legitimate concerns of every state should be dealt seriously.
Chinese Foreign Minister stated that China encourages Russian and Ukraine to continue negotiations and move in the right direction to avoid a large-scale humanitarian crisis. Moreover, he mentioned that the international community must learn from the Ukrainian crisis for long-term security prospects.
In the same vein, the world must respect legitimate concerns of the Russian side regarding the principle of indivisible security. For long-term stability, there is a need to establish a balanced and sustainable European Security Mechanism.
Lastly, both sides also held talks on other international matters including the Asia-Pacific situation, BRICS policies & structure, Korean issues, SCO, and Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia.
