Anji, 26 November 2021 (TDI): Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with the 76th United Nations General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid. Abdulla Shahid is on his 3-days official visit to China. During his visit, he will also meet other senior Chinese officials.
Wang Yi in the meeting urged the UNGA President for a more prominent role of the UN in international affairs. He said that the United Nations should play its role in promoting multilateralism, fairness, and justice in the world.
United Nations is a legitimate authority in international relations due to which there are a lot of expectations on it, he added. The UN should not encourage hegemonism, bullying, and unilateral actions in the world. He stated that the UN should be a platform for taking actions against global challenges.
China is an important partner of the UN
Wang Yi underlined the restoration of the Chinese seat in the United Nations. He said that it was an important event in international relations as well as in the history of the UN. Since its restoration of the seat in the UN in 1971, China has been committed and dedicated to collaborating with the UN to deal with the global challenges, he added.
He stated that every country has equal status under the framework of the United Nations. No country is superior to any other country. Every country’s voice and vote matters in the UN. Therefore, the UN should promote fairness and justice with its decisions.
Chinese Foreign Minister emphasized that China believes in multilateralism. China is a firm believer in win-win cooperation. It will always oppose unilateral decisions in global development. China is an important partner of the UN. It is committed to building a global community based on shared values with a shared future.
Wang Yi also pointed out the Chinese President’s vision of the Global Development Initiative. He said that the Global Development Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping has been praised by the international community. He emphasized that all the countries are welcome to join this initiative.
UNGA President appreciates Chinese role in the world
The President of UNGA congratulated the Chinese government on the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the lawful seat in the United Nations. He thanked China for supporting the UN and multilateralism. He also acknowledged the role of the Chinese government in maintaining the peace and security of the world.
President Abdulla stated that the UN supports the Chinese vision of creating a global community based on shared values with a shared future. He said that there is no place for unilateralism in the world. He stated that the UN also supports the Global Development Initiative proposed by the Chinese President for sustainable development.
The UNGA President encouraged the Chinese role in the pandemic. He emphasized that the UN appreciated the Chinese role in providing vaccines and medical supplies to the world during the pandemic.
The two sides also discussed global challenges including climate change. They put emphasis on green development in the fight against climate change. Wang Yi addressed the Chinese policies of peaking carbon and carbon neutrality to the UNGA President. President Abdulla appreciated the Chinese role in the fight against climate change. They agreed to implement the policies of the Paris Agreement.
Chinese Foreign Minister also talked about the reforms in the United Nations including the United Nations Security Council. Both sides agreed to strengthen their cooperation to promote the interests of the developing countries.
