Beijing, 15 November 2021 (TDI): Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with the diplomatic envoys from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The meeting took place in Beijing, on Sunday, 14 November 2021.
Chinese Foreign Minister emphasized the Chinese cooperation with the ASEAN members during the pandemic. He highlighted the close communication of Chinese President Xi Jinping with the leaders of ASEAN countries. He said that the anti-pandemic cooperation has strengthened the cooperation of China with ASEAN.
30th anniversary of diplomatic relations
Wang Yi stated that the two sides will also jointly hold the summit on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Chinese relations with the ASEAN. The summit will help to strengthen the bilateral relations, he added. He also said the summit will also plan about expanding cooperation in the next 30 years.
Chinese Foreign Minister stated that China will continue to provide vaccines to the ASEAN countries. China will help its partners to win the fight against the pandemic. China will also help them to rebuild their economies from the pandemic, he added.
Wang Yi also emphasized the importance of cooperation in the South China Sea. He said that China and ASEAN countries have always handled the South China Sea issue appropirately.
Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea
Chinese Foreign Minister also highlighted the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC). He said that the relevant parties will celebrate the 20th anniversary of DOC the next year. It will help to strengthen the cooperation in the South China Sea and to create peace and stability in the region.
The diplomatic envoys of the ASEAN congratulated China on successfully holding the sixth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. They also talked about strengthening their relations with China. They said that they look forward to the upcoming summit on the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Diplomatic envoys of ASEAN are committed to enhancing cooperation with China and dealing with the issues of mutual concerns through dialogue. Chinese Foreign Minister agreed on holding dialogue to deal with the issues of mutual concerns.
