Kathmandu (TDI): The Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University has restarted Chinese classes for 40 Nepalese journalists from different media organizations.
This was announced by the director of the institute, Li Shuangcheng, during the opening ceremony last Monday
The classes include Chinese language knowledge, as well as special courses related to journalism.
“Chinese cultural elements are integrated into the course to enable learners to enjoy the charm of Chinese culture and enhance their comprehensive understanding of Chinese people and society,” Li said.

On the occasion, the chairman of the Nepal-China Media Forum, Kishor Shrestha, said the Chinese class, which started in May 2019, had to be paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shrestha said he learned the Chinese language as well as characters when he joined the first batch of the class.
“Chinese is becoming an international language gradually,” he noted.

Another learner, Shristi Kafle, said that the Chinese language was one of the most spoken languages around the globe and she was really excited to be a part of this class.
She said she wanted to master the language to better understand China, its history and society better.
