China’s Geespace Launches Advance Satellites

BEIJING, September 6 (TDI): Chinese company Geespace has launched a group of satellites described as China’s equivalent of Elon Musk’ owned Space X’s Starlink, Chinese media reported on Friday.

The company informed that media that the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites were launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre, located in the northern province of Shanxi. The satellites are backed by automaker Geely.

LEO satellites have benefits like cheaper and more efficient in transmitting signals as it operates at lower altitude

According to the company it has launched 30 satellites that will cover 90% of the globe all the time.

This is for the  first time that LEO satellite communication launched a satellite at the global scale.

Geespace placed its first 20 satellites in orbit in two separate launches in 2022 and earlier this year.

The company is planning launching more satellites that would provide broadband globally.

SpaceX’s Starlink is a growing commercial broadband constellation that has about 5,500 satellites in space and is used by consumers, companies and government agencies.

Geespace’s aims to put 72 satellites in orbit to service over 200 million users worldwide by the end of 2025. In the second phase it would focus on mobile communication and at next stage it  is planning to enter global competition in broadband.

The second phase will add 264 satellites for mobile phone communications, while the third phase will launch 5,676 satellites for high-speed broadband.

China and its companies are focusing on modern technology, space and communication to compete with western powers in the world market.
