London, September 9, 2024 (TDI): After establishing itself in Spain and other countries, China’s one of top car manufacturing companies, Chery, is planning to establish set up in the UK, an attractive market for selling cars.
The company UK head Victor Zhang in an interview with BBC said that it was a matter of time before the company made a final decision.
In view of adopting localized approach to European market, Cherry is preparing to build cars in Spain as well, he said.
Denying allegations of benefitting from the subsidies, Zhang said that Chery was set up in 1997 and turned one of China’s largest car companies.
It is already the country’s biggest exporter of vehicles, but has ambitious expansion plans.
To focus entirely on the international market, Omoda and Jaecoo brands were set up and the former one was officially launched in the UK last month.
The Omoda 5 have version in both electric and petrol-powered engines and has a network of 60 dealerships, and hopes to have more than 100 here by the end of the year, the UK head said.

Cars for sale in Europe are currently built at Chery’s manufacturing HQ in Wuhu, in Eastern China.
The company already has a deal with the Spanish firm EV Motors, which will allow Omoda and Jaecoo models to be built at a former Nissan factory in Barcelona. But it wants to establish other bases as well.
Earlier the company said the UK could also be a candidate for an assembly plant. “Barcelona, this is something we are already committed to, he told BBC. He said that the case of UK is being evaluated.

Cherry’s car are gaining popularity outside China for the last couple of years and media reports suggest the company has plan to establish its market in different continents along with Europe or western countries.
