Beijing, 21 November 2021 (TDI): Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that China will not tolerate any move to create Two Chinas in the world.
Wang Yi said that China strongly rejects the efforts for Taiwanese Independence. Therefore, it would not accept the move made by anyone for the independence of Taiwan. He delivered these remarks in his video statement at the Global Town Hall.
The Chinese Foreign Minister stressed that Taiwanese authorities are making attempts to get support from the world for Taiwanese independence. He said the U.S. should also not be involved in this sensitive issue of China. He pointed out that some Americans think that they can contain China by using Taiwan. Wang said any attempt for Taiwanese Independence will be dealt with with strict actions.
International Community should abide by the One-China principle
He mentioned that One-China is the mutual consensus of the international community. There is just one China in the world and Taiwan is part of China. Thus, the world should abide by its commitment to the One-China policy. Hence, there is no place for Two Chinas or One China, One Taiwan in the world.
He also criticized and opposed the establishment of the Representative Office of Taiwan in Lithuania. Chinese Foreign Minister stated that this move by the Lithuanian government emphasizes the wrong impression of the Two Chinas in the world.
It is also against the political commitment made by the government of Lithuania which agreed on the establishment of diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China. Lithuania has undermined the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China. If the wrongdoings are not corrected immediately then it should be ready to face consequences. China has already downgraded its diplomatic relations with Lithuania to the chargé d’affaires level.
Chinese Foreign Minister stated that the peace and stability of the Asia Pacific depend on the stability of the Taiwan Strait. Peace in the Taiwan Strait guarantees peace in the region. Any move made for the separation of Taiwan will not be tolerated by China and will lead to military conflict. Therefore, no one should be allowed to disturb the peace of the region.
