United Nations, 12 September 2021 (TDI): China wholeheartedly accepted the decision of United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to call an international conference on the situation in Afghanistan, which is going to take place on 13 September 2021.
The Chinese deputy permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), Geng Shuang, said that the international community should contribute to the political, social, and economic development of Kabul.
The envoy mentioned that the challenges within the territory of Kabul such as smuggling, terrorism, displaced people have impacts on cross-border states; peace and stability in Kabul are also linked with the peace in the region.
Therefore, Geng said that the neighboring states of Afghanistan have always supported the settlement of the unstable situation in Afghanistan.
As the Taliban are close to the formation of an interim government in Afghanistan, Geng Shuang, discouraged imposing foreign models on states and meanwhile told the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that China wishes to see Afghanistan in a stable developmental way which is based on Kabul’s interest.
The purpose of the Taliban interim government is to redevelop the social and economic condition of the country.
In this context, Geng further explained the expectations of China from the Afghanistan government; he said that Beijing hopes Afghanistan to be committed to regional cooperation, unity among different groups, protection of human rights, world-recognized policies, and anti-terrorist measures.
