Beijing (TDI): China has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah, emphasizing the importance of efforts aimed at reducing tensions and fostering peace in the region.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Beijing is closely monitoring the situation and has consistently called for adherence to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
“China supports all initiatives that contribute to de-escalation and the achievement of peace, and we welcome the agreement reached by the relevant parties on a ceasefire,” Mao stated.
She further highlighted that the failure to secure a ceasefire in Gaza remains the root cause of ongoing turmoil in the Middle East.
China Urges Gaza Truce
The spokesperson urged all sides to intensify efforts towards achieving a comprehensive and lasting truce in Gaza at the earliest opportunity.
The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah, brokered by the United States and France, came into effect on Wednesday.
The development follows weeks of heightened tensions and violent clashes along the Lebanon-Israel border.
