Beijing, 5 April 2024 (TDI): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi affirmed China’s commitment to prioritizing Vietnam in its neighborhood diplomacy during talks with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Thursday.
Wang Yi highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation. He emphasized joint efforts to build a community with a shared future for China and Vietnam.
Wang outlined areas for enhanced cooperation. This includes strategic communication, development synergy, trade, investment, the digital economy, and green development.
He stressed the significance of fostering people-to-people exchanges. This can lead to strengthened public opinion. Moreover, it deepens the friendship between the two nations.
According to him, there should be good management of disagreements, quicken marine cooperation and talks on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, and use win-win cooperation to settle disputes and conflicts.
Wang stressed the significance of being on the lookout for camp confrontations in the area and the development of “small circles” that threaten the security and tranquility of the region.
Wang urged both countries to uphold international justice and support each other on vital issues. He urged the nations to manage differences effectively. Particularly, this was regarding maritime cooperation and the South China Sea Code of Conduct.
Moreover, he emphasized the importance of avoiding regional polarization and divisive tactics. Wang called for vigilance against actions undermining regional peace.
In response, Bui Thanh Son reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to prioritizing relations with China. He urged the promotion of high-level exchanges, party-to-party engagement, connectivity, and local cooperation.

He affirmed Vietnam’s adherence to the one-China policy. Bui opposed interference in other countries’ internal affairs under the pretext of human rights and democracy.
Bui Thanh Son expressed Vietnam’s readiness to collaborate with China in managing differences, advancing maritime cooperation, and facilitating discussions on the South China Sea Code of Conduct to uphold peace and stability in the region.
