Bali, 14 November 2022 (TDI): The United States (US) President, Joe Biden, and Chinese President Xi Jinping met during the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia.
Both leaders arrived in Bali for the 17th G2O Leaders’ Summit that is to be held from November 15 to November 16.
Both leaders began their first face-to-face talk on the sidelines of the summit. It is the first time; the two leaders have met after Biden became the President of the US.
On the other hand, this is Xi Jinping’s second overseas trip after Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in September 2022.
This meeting comes less than three months after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, which angered China and tensions between both states intensified.
The meeting between the two leaders is seen as a hope for stabilizing US-China relations in the wake of the recent tensions between the two states.
Remarks by both Leaders
The 17th G20 Leaders’ summit is going to begin on November 15 under the presidency of Indonesia. Leaders from the G20 (group of twenty) member states have started to arrive in Bali for the summit.
US President and Chinese President arrived on Monday afternoon and met each other on the sidelines of the upcoming summit.
The meeting would help both sides in developing “guardrails” and clear rules of the road to communication and peaceful relations.

According to President Biden, “We share a responsibility to show that China and the US can manage our differences, prevent competition from becoming conflict and find ways to work together on urgent global issues.”
While affirming to the importance of cooperation on global issues and preventing conflict Xi Jinping said, “the two Presidents needed to chart the right course for the relationship”.
“Nothing can substitute for face-to-face meetings,” he added while highlighting the importance of face-to-face meetings and discussions.
The meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the G20 summit is projecting a peaceful way for both countries to settle the tensions through communication.
The tools of communication must always be open with the proper guidelines from b both sides to minimize any chance of conflict.
