Hong Kong, 10 November 2023 (TDI): The Hong Kong Forum on China-US Relations 2023 was held on November 9, 2023, with the theme of “Change and Progress”. Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng gave a speech through a video link.
Over 400 representatives from various sectors of both nations joined the event, such as CUSEF Chairman John Zhao, Bi Jingquan, the Executive Vice Chairman of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, Charlene Barshefsky, the former US.
Trade Representative, Nicholas Burns, the US Ambassador to China, and Max Baucus, the former US Ambassador to China.
Xie Feng praised the CUSEF for its role in fostering positive dialogue and varied interactions between the two nations and advancing China-US collaboration and understanding.
He expressed his sincere appreciation to Tung Chee-Hwa, the Chairman Emeritus of the CUSEF, and others who have always shown concern and support for China-US relations.
Xie noted that the world, our era and history are changing like never before, and the world is facing more instability and uncertainty.
Meanwhile, people around the globe are increasingly demanding peace, development and cooperation, and their desire for a better life is unstoppable.
As China-US relations encountered severe challenges in the last few years and reached the lowest level since the normalization of ties, there has also been a rising voice for reversing the negative trend.

Ambassador Xie stated that thanks to the guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Joe Biden and the joint efforts of both sides, we have witnessed some encouraging signs of a more stable China-US relationship lately.
The two sides have engaged in a series of high-level interactions, initiated a series of dialogue mechanisms, and resumed exchanges and cooperation at various levels. All these have jointly conveyed a positive message of stabilizing China-US relations.
Both sides agree that it is helpful and necessary for the two countries to keep dialogue, both have the same hope to stabilize and enhance bilateral relations as soon as possible, and both have consented to work together toward a meeting between the two Presidents in San Francisco.
He stated that China-US relations also need to recover as the world is recovering from the pandemic. He urged people from different sectors in both countries to travel more and have more communication and exchanges, so as to slowly melt the ice of misunderstanding and misperception, and build bridges for mutual understanding.
Ambassador Xie hoped that the CUSEF and all the attendees will keep making their rational voices heard, gather wisdom, cultivate public support for China-US friendship, and make new contribution to restoring China-US relations to the path of healthy, stable and sustainable development.
