China-Thailand Foreign Minister holds annual consultation

Bangkok, 29 January 2024 (TDI): On Sunday, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara held China-Thailand annual consultation.

Foreign Minister Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stated that China and Thailand are like a family.

He said that as the two countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations next year.

And they should seize the new opportunities and take new actions to advance their modernization and build a China-Thailand community with a shared future.

Foreign Minister Wang expressed China’s willingness to work on building a more stable, prosperous and sustainable China-Thailand community with a shared future, enhance practical cooperation in various fields, and enrich the bilateral relations.

China-Thailand: Diplomatic Cooperation

Wang also said that China is ready to cooperate with Thailand and other emerging developing countries to strengthen unity and cooperation, serve their own development, and bring more stability and certainty to the turbulent world.

He urged China and Thailand to further enhance high-level exchanges and jointly plan the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

He emphasized that both sides should actively pursue high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

To accelerate the China-Thailand Railway construction, and fully implement the China-Laos-Thailand Connectivity Development Corridor Outlook.

People-to-People Exchanges

Foreign Minister Wang suggested that China and Thailand should make good use of the important agreement of mutual visa exemption to facilitate closer people-to-people exchanges, reinforce law enforcement cooperation and take concrete measures to ensure the safety of tourists from both countries.

He also called for joint efforts to combat transnational crimes such as online gambling and electronic fraud to protect the security and stability of the region.

Thailand’s support for China

The deputy prime Minister Parnpree, on his part, said that Thailand attaches great importance to the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Thailand and China

And to strengthening friendly cooperation with China, as it serves the common interests of both countries and is also vital for world peace and stability.

He reaffirmed Thailand’s firm adherence to the one-China principle and its refusal to engage in any official exchanges with the Taiwan authorities.

He praised the development of Thailand-China relations as a reflection of the deep mutual trust and the consistent support for each other in times of difficulty.

Moreover he also expressed his high appreciation for China’s role in maintaining world stability and promoting global economic recovery as a responsible major country.

He said that Thailand is willing to coordinate with China on international and regional issues.

And also to participate in substantive cooperation in implementing the Global Development Initiative, the global Security Initiative and the global Civilization Initiative, join in the Belt and Road cooperation, uphold multilateralism, oppose decoupling, and keep production and supply chain stable.
