New York, (TDI): China has reaffirmed its steadfast support for Lebanon in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and national dignity.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed Beijing’s support to his Lebanese counterpart, Abdallah Bou Habib, during a meeting in New York.
As reports emerged of Israeli strikes killing at least 558 people in Lebanon—the deadliest since the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war—Wang Yi expressed China’s deep concern over the ongoing violence.
Israeli forces claimed to have struck 1,600 Hezbollah targets, leading to mass displacement, while Hezbollah launched over 200 rockets into northern Israel.
Wang stressed that China strongly opposes any attacks on civilians, urging restraint and condemning actions that violate international norms.
He warned that violence begets violence and called for a permanent ceasefire, advocating for the two-state solution as the way forward.
China also urged Lebanon to ensure the safety of its citizens.

In response, Bou Habib thanked China for its consistent support at multilateral forums, including the United Nations.
Escalated Situation
The situation between Lebanon and Israel has rapidly escalated into a near full-scale conflict.
Experts predict further deterioration as Israel prepares for a potential ground invasion, which could intensify Hezbollah’s rocket and missile assaults, with fears of other regional militant groups getting involved.
Amid the escalating conflict, China’s Foreign Ministry urged its citizens in Lebanon to evacuate or move to safer areas.
