Beijing, 23 November 2023 (TDI): On Wednesday, Beijing hosted a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of the Russian State Duma, to foster a China-Russia strategic partnership.
President Xi emphasized the extensive common interests that China and Russia share as the largest neighbors and permanent members of the UN Security Council.
“President Putin and I had two face-to-face meetings this year and agreed on many new ways to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership and practical cooperation between China and Russia in various fields,” Xi said.
President Xi also noted that next year will mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Russia.
He said China is willing to work with Russia to enhance their relations based on permanent friendship, strategic coordination and mutual benefit.
He added that this will bring new vitality to the development of both countries and contribute to the prosperity and stability of the world.
Xi highlighted the importance of strengthening the cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries for the steady and long-term development of China-Russia relations.
He expressed his hope that the Russian State Duma and the Chinese National People’s Congress will increase their exchanges of legislative experience.
He also stressed to make full use of the special committees and friendship groups of the two legislatures to provide better legal support for bilateral cooperation.
He also called for the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union, and the deepening of communication and coordination in multilateral platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, G20 and others.
Volodin said that Russia-China relations have reached the highest level in history under the strategic guidance of President Xi and President Putin.
He said that all parties in the Russian State Duma have a strong consensus on developing friendly relations with China.
Russia firmly adheres to the one-China policy and firmly supports China in safeguarding its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Russia is ready to enhance the exchanges and cooperation between the legislatures and the political parties of the two countries.
And to actively implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen the friendship and mutual trust between the two peoples, Volodin said.
Wang Yi and Peng Qinghua were also present at the meeting.
