Islamabad, 6 September 2022 (TDI): China announced to extend its financial assistance to flood-ravaged Pakistan by giving an additional RMB 300 million, taking the total Chinese assistance to RMB 400 million. Additionally, the country has decided to deliver 200 tonnes of vegetables via the Karakoram Highway, the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning announced.

Additional disaster relief
The chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), Luo Zhaohui announced the additional donation of RMB 300 million to Pakistan. The decision came during his virtual meeting with the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Akhtar Nawaz.
Today, the Chinese Government announced to offer an additional 300 million RMB worth of flood relief materials in favor of Pakistan following the 100 million RMB worth of emergency relief supplies donated last week.

China has also decided to send several batches of urgently-needed supplies to Pakistan successively. Earlier this week, the latest batch of China’s aid for Pakistani flood victims consisting of 3,000 tents reached Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi.
The Red Cross Society of China has also provided USD 300,000 in emergency cash assistance to the Pakistan Red Crescent Society up till now.
Food donations
The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson also announced China’s decision to provide food donations to Pakistan. Accordingly, China has put together 200 tonnes of onions. These will soon be dispatched via Karakoram Highway to the flood-hit people of Pakistan.
The Spokesperson added that this decision was taken on the basis of the needs of Pakistan’s flood-affected people. Therefore, the Spokesperson affirmed that China will continue to provide Pakistan with urgently-needed help and support the disaster relief work.
China-Pakistan: A unique bond
The spokeswoman also said that since the beginning of the floods, China has been standing together with Pakistan. She added that the country is making every effort to provide disaster relief assistance to Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also expressed profound gratitude to the Chinese leadership and people for the additional relief assistance for flood victims in Pakistan. Appreciating the “unique bond”, Pakistan’s Prime Minister appreciated China’s assistance in a tweet.

Moreover, she said that the Chinese leaders including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang have extended messages of sympathy to their Pakistani counterparts in these turbulent times.
