China Pledges New Boost to Pakistan’s Agriculture and Industry Under CPEC II

Islamabad (TDI): China’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, reaffirmed Beijing’s strong commitment to support Pakistan’s industrialization, agricultural modernization, and major connectivity upgrades under the new phase of the CPEC, on Wednesday.

Speaking at a policy dialogue titled “Redefining Regional Connectivity: Pakistan–China Friendship in the New Geo-Economic Paradigm,” Ambassador Jiang addressed senior policymakers, academics, and students via video link, laying out China’s plans to deepen cooperation across key productive sectors.

As part of these plans, he announced support for two major industrial investments: a US$400 million home-appliance industrial park backed by Haier, designed to produce 10 million units annually, and a US$150 million textile industrial park by Challenge Group, which is projected to generate US$400 million in yearly exports.

Jiang said China will help incorporate more Pakistani farm products into contract-farming schemes, improve their market access, and strengthen value-chain linkages, moves aimed at diversifying exports and stabilizing foreign exchange earnings.

Ambassador Jiang also reaffirmed China’s commitment to advancing key infrastructure under CPEC. He highlighted plans to realign the Karakoram Highway (Raikot–Thakot stretch), upgrade the Khunjerab–Sost border port, and further develop the strategic Gwadar Port, underscoring the goal of turning Gwadar into a fully functional regional logistics hub.

Reflecting on CPEC’s achievements so far, the envoy noted that the corridor has attracted nearly US$26 billion in direct investment, added 8,000 megawatts of power to Pakistan’s national grid, built hundreds of kilometers of motorways, and laid extensive power transmission networks.

He highlighted that initiatives such as the China-Pakistan Friendship Hospital and a large desalination plant in Gwadar have helped improve access to healthcare and clean water for many Pakistanis.

Jiang said that by integrating CPEC with Pakistan’s national development priorities, both countries are working to build a “closer China–Pakistan community with a shared future.”

He added that future cooperation will deepen across industry, agriculture, mining, and green development, all contributing to Pakistan’s long-term economic revival
