China observes national memorial day on Nanjing massacre

Nanjing, 13 December 2021 (TDI): China observed a state-level memorial ceremony for the victims of the Nanjing massacre.

China’s flag flew at half-mast in the square. While the people observed one-minute silence for the victims of the massacre.

The Chinese legislation body adopted the resolution to hold a national memorial day for the victims of the Nanjing massacre on December 13. The government officials, families of the victims attended the 8th national memorial ceremony in Nanjing.

Japan captured the Chinese city Nanjing in 1937 and started killing Nanjing citizens. It did not differentiate between soldiers and civilians and killed a total of 300,000 in Nanjing, which was the capital of China at that time.

Nanjing Massacre was one of the deadliest episodes of World War 2

Nanjing massacre by Japan was one of the merciless events of World War 2. It was a barbaric event in which Japan killed unarmed civilians and soldiers.

Thousands of people attended the event despite the cold winter season. The residents of Nanjing observed one-minute silence for the victims. Many families of the victims were present at the event. At present just 61 survivors of the Nanjing massacre are alive and the number is falling with the deaths of the survivors.

China is holding the national memorial ceremony on the Nanjing massacre for the last 8 years. The ceremony aims to remind the younger generation of China about its painful history.

Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan in his speech to the event stated that the Nanjing massacre was one of three large-scale massacres during World War II. He emphasized that the Chinese development in the world is the greatest consolation to the victims of the barbaric event in Nanjing by the Japanese army.

The Chinese Vice Premier underscored that China is ready to build China-Japan relations with a new era. He said that China looks forward to working together with Japan for the peace and stability of the region.
