Beijing, 4 September 2024 (TDI): China on Tuesday commemorated the 79th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1931-1945) and the World Anti-Fascist War with a series of nationwide activities.

The events aimed to remind people of the nation’s history, honor its martyrs, and reinforce the significance of peace.

In Beijing, a symposium was held to mark the anniversary, bringing together officials, scholars, and citizens who recalled the resilience of the Chinese people during the war and shared their insights on the importance of the victory.

The gathering underscored a commitment to peace and development, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.

Meanwhile, in Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, the September 18th Historical Museum in Shenyang hosted activities where commentators narrated heroic stories from the war, inspiring attendees to reflect on the past and honor the sacrifices made.

The museum announced plans to extend its “red culture” initiatives to universities and communities, focusing on patriotism-themed lectures to foster a sense of national pride among students.

Commemorations in Shanghai

In Shanghai, the Victory Square of the Shanghai Songhu Memorial Hall for the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression witnessed a solemn commemorative event beginning at 9 a.m.

Representatives from various sectors laid flowers in tribute to the martyrs and sang the national anthem.

Kong Xiangjun, the curator of the memorial hall, stated that these events aim to “promote the great spirit of resisting aggression” and pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives.

“We hope these activities will particularly help the younger generation understand and remember history, inspiring their patriotism and a commitment to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation,” Kong said.
