Cairo, 3 December 2021 (TDI): China and Egypt agreed to establish a joint laboratory for smart agriculture.
The scientific research institutions of China and Egypt signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on establishing a joint lab for smart agricultural cooperation.
The two sides will cooperate in the research projects on agriculture according to the agreement. They will also hold scientific seminars and conferences on modern agriculture techniques. There will also be exchange visits between the Chinese and Egyptian professors, lecturers, and students.
The Egyptian National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS) signed the MoU with China’s Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP). Under the agreement, the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research will cooperate with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS).

Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang and the Egyptian Deputy Minister of Higher Education for Scientific Research Affairs Yasser Refaat witnessed the MoU signing ceremony that was held in Cairo on December 2, 2021.
Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar underlined the significance of win-win cooperation between Egypt and China on smart agriculture. He stated that it will help to expand the cooperation between the two sides. This will further strengthen the bilateral relations of the two states, he added.
The MoU on agricultural cooperation was signed at the special event on the 65th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Egypt. The Egyptian Minister highlighted the commitment of Egypt to strengthen its strategic partnership with China.
Chinese ambassador Liao Liqiang also emphasized bilateral relations between China and Egypt. He stated that Egypt is a key strategic partner of China. The two countries are already working on the Chinese multi-billion dollar project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRR). He stressed the win-win cooperation of BRI that aims for the social and economic development of Egypt.
He pointed out that the smart lab will be established in Egypt under the framework of BRI. It will provide new channels for cooperation on smart agriculture especially in desertification and the cultivation of salt-tolerant crops, he added.
China and Egypt are two key friends which enjoy close relations. The two countries are working to enhance their cooperation under the framework of BRI. China and Egypt are also partners in the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
