Xining, 12 September 2023 (TDI): The International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the CPC Qinghai Provincial Committee co-hosted an event.
The aim was to provide a thematic briefing on Stories of CPC: Qinghai’s Achievements in Practicing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
The theme was centered on “Chinese Modernization: Harmony Between Humanity and Nature.” Sun Haiyan, Liu Jianchao, Chen Gang, and over 150 political party representatives from nearly 30 countries were present at the event.
The event focused on Chinese ecological conservation and modernization. Political officials and experts emphasized the importance of balancing human and environmental needs.
China’s efforts in environmental protection and international cooperation were highlighted. International speakers praised China’s ecological efforts of pursuing development without harming the environment.
Opening Remarks
Sun Haiyan, Vice Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, welcomed attendees.
He put emphasis on the importance of balancing modernization and ecological conservation for all political parties and highlighted the CPC’s efforts in this regard.
A documentary showcased Qinghai’s geological history, the CPC’s actions on climate change, clean energy, tourism, and contributions to global modernization. It also covered Qinghai’s rich cultural diversity and heritage.
Key Notes and Addresses
Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Committee, stressed the importance of balancing ecological conservation and modernization.
He discussed China’s approach, emphasizing combining ecological advantages with economic development while protecting the environment.
Liu noted China’s achievements in improving air quality, restoring polluted areas, and promoting global ecological conservation. He called for developed countries to assist developing ones in addressing climate change.
Chen Gang, Secretary of the CPC Qinghai Provincial Committee, talked about the development of the world’s largest national park system, and its effectiveness for environmental protection.
China’s commitment to clean energy, exemplified by the largest solar power plant, is aligned with goals for carbon neutrality by 2060. Chen magnified the importance of ecological protection on the Tibetan Plateau and its significance for humanity’s future.
Stories by the Narrators
Following the addresses, a few narrators shared their stories regarding the efforts of ecological transformation and modernization in Qinghai.
In Eco-Tourism, Yushu County, Qinghai, uses host families selected through competitive processes to provide tourists with immersive experiences.
These families learn cooking, emergency handling, and ecological conservation. They benefit from new skills and cultural exchange, all while enhancing accommodations and preserving geological landscapes.
A sea navigator at the Gobi Desert discussed Qinghai’s clean energy initiatives. He noted the transformation of the Thalan desert into a large solar PV field, generating 91.6% clean energy.
This effort produced 10 million kilowatts of green energy, which powered Beijing Daxing International Airport. The PV industry of Qinghai was also showcased at important international summits.
An engineer at China’s Atmospheric Baseline Observatory pondered the growing public awareness of climate change.
He pointed out the establishment of the Global and Atmospheric Baseline and Tibetan Plateau Big Data Application Centre to monitor greenhouse gas emissions in Qinghai and its role in carbon neutrality research.
Dukong, head of Huangsang Temple Ranger Station, focused on the critical role of 48 rangers in protecting a vast 28,000-hectare region in Qinghai province. They use infrared cameras to capture valuable wildlife images, including snow leopards.
Despite challenges like communication and rugged terrain, these dedicated rangers, often ethnic Tibetans, persistently patrol and foster encounters with previously elusive animals like blue sheep.
Dukong showcased their unwavering commitment and challenges as stewards of Qinghai’s natural heritage.
Yang Xiong Zhong, Qinghai Salt Lake Industry Group, underlined Chaerhan Salt Lake’s role as China’s largest and resource-rich Salt Lake with 2000 years of salt reserves.
It’s a key hub for lithium recycling, crucial in the new energy era for devices like cell phones and electric cars.
He highlighted eco-friendly and cost-effective lithium extraction technology, signifying a shift towards a green lithium industry at Chaerhan Salt Lake, a major global lithium resource.
Sonanxi, Deputy Headmaster of Changjiang Yuan Minzu School, shared their transformation from a nomadic institution to an eco-conscious modern school near the Yangtze River’s source.
They’ve formed the “Little Guardian Team of the Yangtze River,” initiated recycling projects, and were inspired by General Secretary Xi Jinping’s visit in 2016.
Their students have collected 100,000+ recyclable items, aiming to protect the Earth. They aspire to share Qinghai’s culture and development worldwide for a brighter future.
Shankar Pokhrel, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal, talked about the global ecological crisis and leaders’ role in achieving harmony between humanity and nature.
He stressed the link between ecology and development, advocating for Nepal’s collaboration with provinces like Qinghai for eco-friendly growth.
Pokhrel called for global cooperation on environmental issues, proposing green development, eco-security strengthening, and climate change response. He expressed gratitude and wished Qinghai success as a sustainable growth model.
Chrysanthos Georgiou, a member of the Central Committee of AKEL in Cyprus, addressed the event with several key points. He spotlighted the importance of shared values such as peace, democracy, and cooperation.
Georgiou also expressed solidarity against the Ukraine war, drawing from his own experiences with imperialism.
Georgiou commended China’s governance model and its adaptability to changing needs. He cited achievements in poverty reduction, improved living standards, and addressing disparities as notable successes.
Additionally, he highlighted China’s pursuit of further democratization, excellence in education, and its goal of promoting harmony between humanity and nature.
He portrayed China’s journey as a model of success, offering hope and inspiration for others to follow.
In conclusion, the event underscored the global commitment to environmental protection, clean energy, and collective action against climate change. Qinghai’s role as a model for sustainable growth offers hope for a greener future worldwide.
