Brasilia, 21 January 2024 (TDI): On Friday, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, met with Wang Yi, the visiting Chinese Foreign Minister. They discussed the strategic cooperation between China and Brazil and its global implications.
Brazilian President Luiz stated that the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Brazil goes beyond the bilateral level and becomes a key factor for balancing the international situation, which benefits world peace and stability.
He said that Brazil is ready to enhance strategic communication and coordination with China and take the comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries to a new level, in light of the changes and chaos in the current world.
He also reaffirmed Brazil’s support for China’s stance on the Taiwan issue and its adherence to the one-China principle, which has been a consistent position of successive Brazilian governments and will not change.
China’s appreciates Brazil
Foreign Minister Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that Brazil is the first developing country to form a strategic partnership with China and the first major Latin American country to upgrade the bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
He said that the two countries have shared interests and have cooperated extensively in various areas, leading the way for China-Latin America cooperation and playing an important role.
He thanked Brazil for its solid support for China in defending its core interests, which he said fully reflects the significance of the China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership.
Moreover he stated that chinese side is willing to use the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Moreover to improve cooperation in various fields and directions, align development strategies, and build a China-Brazil community with a shared future.
Global Challenges and Opportunities
Foreign Minister Wang pointed out that the world is undergoing a new period of turbulence and transformation, characterized by increased uncertainty and instability.
He said that both countries, as independent emerging powers, should first handle their own affairs well.
Meanwhile, strengthening unity, cooperation, and common goals in order to show their responsibilities as major countries and become vital stabilizing forces in a multipolar system.
He said that China supports Brazil in playing a bigger role in international and regional affairs.
China is ready to work with Brazil to strengthen strategic cooperation to better protect the common interests of developing countries, and respond to global challenges more effectively.
He also said that the two sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in the United Nations, BRICS cooperation, China-Latin America cooperation, and exploring sub-regional cooperation such as with the Southern Common Market.
The main products that Brazil sells to China, as its biggest trading partner, are soy and iron ore. At a meeting in Shenzhen last week between Brazilian and Chinese business leaders, the Chinese firms announced their intention to invest more in Brazil’s energy, oil and electric car sectors.
