Dushanbe (TDI): Kazakhstan has reached an agreement to receive water from the three Central Asian countries – Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.
The historic agreement was reached during the 88th meeting of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (ICWC) of Central Asia, held in Dushanbe.

The meeting was attended by the heads of water management agencies from the above-mentioned countries.
As per the agreement, Kazakhstan will receive 11 billion cubic meters of water by April 2025. About 9.5 billion cubic meters of water will be directed to the Shardara reservoir in the Turkestan region via the Syr Darya River, while 1.6 billion cubic meters will be reserved in the Aral Sea.

The agreement will not only meet Kazakhstan’s water supply needs for the forthcoming irrigation season but also support the ecological balance of southern Kazakhstan.
