Stockholm, 29 January 2022 (TDI): The Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) is a collaboration of trust for governments within the Baltic Sea Region.
It has a total of 11 members, those being Iceland, Norway, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Poland, Russia, Sweden, and Estonia. This inter-governmental organization focuses on building solutions on regional issues through a global point of view.
They exchange ideas on the practical implementation of the 2030 UN (United Nations) sustainability goals, the Sendai Framework, the Paris Climate Agreement, the Palermo Protocol as well as the UN Convention on Rights of the Child.
The focus for these governments within this regional organization is on three key factors:
- Safety and Security of the region
- Sustainability and Prosperity of the region
- Regional identity
Further details regarding the organization can be found here. Having been founded in 1992, the organization now focuses on the themes of sustainability, social security, innovation, and research.
In line with its goals in research, innovation, and support for the 2030 Sustainability goals, the organization launched a project for sustainable coastline tourism called “The Project Baltic Sea Boating” (BSB).
This project was run by the BalticBlueMarinas, it aims to use sustainable marinas to promote tourism within the Baltic Coastal Region. Marinas are often seen as individual entities in comparison to the other actors within the tourism sector, regardless of them being an important part of the tourism sector.
The aim of this project is to increase the level of cooperation across actors so that growth can be increased across actors. Marinas can be integrated into regional tourism and recreational boating can become an essential part of various tourism sectors.
In this case, Project Baltic Sea Boating is coming to an end and the CBSS is opening doors for all participants that are interested to become a part of the final conference called, ‘Branding of the Baltic Sea Region as a Single Maritime Destination for Sustainable coastal tourism’.
A tweet was posted by the organization on the 28th of January in line with participation details as follows:
