Nairobi, 14 September 2021 (TDI): Kenya and Congo’s airways have signed an aircraft lease agreement. Kenya Airways PLC (KQ) is Kenya’s national carrier. Under this agreement, Kenya Airways will lease two jets named Embraer E190 to Congo airways. Kenya firstly offered this agreement to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to boost their mutual domestic operations and flight frequencies. Moreover, Kenya has also provided Congo with technical personnel exchange skills-related courses through its Pride Center.
This airway Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Kinshasa on April 2021 to collaborate and strengthen aviation ties between Kenya and DRC. The agreement witnesses were Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta and Congo’s President Felix Tshesekedi.
While signing the agreement, Allan Kilavuka, serving as a CEO and MD of Kenya Airways Group, applauded the collaboration. He also mentioned this cooperation model as the first step of Pan Africanism that will serve socio-economic development in Africa. While addressing, he also mentioned KQ as a key player of aviation in Africa, who further wants to cooperate in the region by cooperating with other states.
