Ottawa, 23 September 2021 (TDI): Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau virtually participated in a Global COVID-19 Summit hosted by the United States’ President Joe Biden on Wednesday. Joe Biden addressed the Summit entitled “Ending the Pandemic and Building Back Better” on the margins of the UN General Assembly.
Speaking live during the Summit, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accompanied Joe Biden and other world leaders, expressing his commitment to vaccinating over 70 percent of the world by next year. He also affirmed Canada’s commitment to providing equitable access to COVID-19 tests, vaccines, and treatments, besides ensuring financial support for vaccine donations to countries.
Prime Minister Trudeau reiterated Canada’s willingness to work with its global partners to strengthen global health security. For this, he stated, Canada would be focusing on increasing the production and delivery of Covid-19 vaccines. So far, Canada has contributed more than 2.5 billion US dollars to help manage the crisis globally, particularly through the COVAX initiative.
