Ottawa (TDI): Canada remains firm in its commitment to Ukraine, stressing its support for global security and democratic principles. The ongoing conflict is widely regarded as not only an assault on Ukraine’s sovereignty but also a direct challenge to the international rules-based order.
Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau participated in the Securing our Future Summit in London, an event hosted by British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

The Summit convened leaders from Euro-Atlantic and NATO nations to confirm their collective commitment to Ukraine.
The discussions centered on increasing regional security, maintaining international support for Ukraine, and implementing diplomatic and economic countermeasures against Russia.
During the Summit, Canada announced a new round of sanctions against individuals and entities accused of facilitating Russia’s military operations.

These measures target 10 individuals and 21 entities, including paramilitary groups linked to the Kremlin. Canadian officials focused that these actions aim to disrupt Russia’s ability to exploit third-party actors to sustain its military efforts.
The prime minister touched upon that Canada has now sanctioned more than 3,000 individuals and organizations linked to Russia’s aggression.

Furthermore, leaders at the Summit endorsed that Ukraine’s security is paramount to long-term peace in Europe.
They stressed that any diplomatic resolution to the conflict must involve Ukraine’s full participation, confirming that any future agreements include concrete security guarantees.
The discussions underlined the necessity of continued and coordinated international engagement to deter threats to regional stability.
Moreover, Prime Minister Trudeau sustained Canada’s committed support for Ukraine, particularly as the country takes on the G7 Presidency.
He pointed out Canada’s comprehensive aid package, which has now reached nearly $20 billion, with military assistance, financial aid, and humanitarian relief.

This support has been instrumental in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and supporting its reconstruction efforts.
The Prime Minister also focused on Canada’s role in military training through Operation UNIFIER, an initiative that has trained over 44,000 Ukrainian troops since 2015.
He highlighted Canada’s ongoing collaboration with allies to expand and boost these efforts, protecting Ukraine from being equipped to defend itself.
Additionally, Canadian officials stressed their commitment to holding Russia accountable for violations of international law, including war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The Summit discussions placed particular focus on the forced deportation of Ukrainian children, a concern that has drawn widespread condemnation from the international community.
However, Canada’s continued commitment to Ukraine was a central point of the Summit. Officials reasserted that military, economic, and humanitarian support would remain integral to Canada’s foreign policy.
The Prime Minister focused on the necessity of unity among allies, expressing confidence that Ukraine would ultimately secure a just and lasting peace, rebuild its infrastructure, and restore stability.
