UK, France, Ukraine Agree on Ceasefire Plan for Russia-Ukraine Conflict

London (TDI): Britain, France, and Ukraine have agreed to collaborate on a ceasefire proposal to present to the United States, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Sunday.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer appealed to European leaders to strengthen their collective security and sustain their commitment to Ukraine during a high-profile meeting on Sunday.

He made the statement as he prepared to host a summit of European leaders to discuss ways to end the war.

In this sense, he addressed eighteen fellow leaders, Starmer focused on the need for a unified approach to counter Russian aggression, urging each nation to contribute according to its capabilities.

Furthermore, Starmer revealed that he had collaborated with France and Ukraine to outline a four-point strategy aimed at achieving peace.

The plan includes maintaining economic and military aid to Kyiv, protecting Ukraine’s sovereignty and security in any negotiations, continuing to arm the country to deter future aggression, and forming a “coalition of the willing” to defend Ukraine and guarantee lasting peace.

He said the United Kingdom (UK) is prepared to deploy troops and aircraft as part of this coalition, alongside other nations.

The British leader underlined the importance of United States support for any peace plan, though he did not specify the extent of American involvement.

He acknowledged ongoing discussions to secure a security guarantee from Washington, focusing on that any agreement to hinder the fighting must be robustly defended to prevent a temporary pause followed by renewed aggression from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Starmer also expressed his intention to present a more formal proposal to the US and work with Trump to advance the plan.

In such a scenario, Starmer rejected suggestions that the US was no longer a reliable ally, elucidating the deep ties between the two nations in defense, security, and intelligence.

He reasserted his distrust of Putin but expressed confidence in Trump’s commitment to resolving the conflict. Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni, a staunch supporter of Ukraine and a natural ally of Trump, supported Starmer’s call for unity, warning that dividing the West would have disastrous consequences.

The summit, held at Lancaster House in London, brought together leaders from Germany, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Canada, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Romania, as well as representatives from NATO and the European Union.

Moreover, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced plans to “rearm Europe” and strengthen the bloc’s security, describing the need to transform Ukraine into a “steel porcupine” that would be unaffected by future invasions.

He pledged to raise the UK’s military expenditure to 2.5% of GDP by 2027 and announced a £1.6 billion package to supply Ukraine with 5,000 air defense missiles.

However, Starmer’s message was clear: Europe must unite, step up its efforts, and ensure that Ukraine is equipped to defend itself and secure its future.

The path to peace, he argued, requires constant commitment, collective action, and a determined resolve to uphold the principles of sovereignty and security.
