Beirut, 11 September 2021 (TDI): On Friday, Canada’s Embassy in Lebanon showed contentment over the formation of a new Lebanese cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Najib Mikati. Canada expressed its anticipation for the new government to effectively tackle the overlapping crises faced by the Lebanese population.
Canada and several other states have long been pushing for Lebanon’s government to be formally established as the humanitarian crises kept mounting in the country. The new Prime Minister Mikati has promised to help Lebanon through critical circumstances as the economy continues to crumble, the educational sector deteriorates, accompanied by medicine shortages amid the Covid-19 pandemic, and all of this follows as Lebanon tries to recover from last year’s Beirut explosion.
After more than a year of waiting, Lebanon has officially formed a new government. Following this, the Lebanese Parliament will soon convene to grant a vote of confidence to Najib Mikati’s government. Najib was appointed on 26th July 2021 soon after former Prime Minister-Designate Saad Hariri resigned from the position.
