Phnom Penh, 2 May (TDI): Cambodia will host the 75th anniversary of The World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) in 2025. As a predominantly Buddhist nation, Cambodia has a rich cultural heritage of Buddhism, with numerous temples and historical sites related to the faith.

Prime Minister Hun Sen supported the idea of holding the event in Cambodia at the ceremony for awarding the honorary titles of “Patron” of The WFB and “Honorary Doctorate in Humanities” to the Cambodian Premier as well as the title of “Senior Advisor” to The WFB to Gen. Hun Manet, Deputy Commander.

The World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) is an intercontinental organization promoting Buddhist teachings and practices worldwide.

Founded in 1950, the WFB has over 250 member organizations in more than 40 countries and actively engages in social and cultural outreach programs related to Buddhism.

At a conference in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Buddhist delegates from Asia, Europe, and North America (including Hawaii) consented to attend.

In addition to the attendees from Sri Lanka, there were 129 Buddhist representatives from 27 nations. The World Fellowship of Buddhists was created during this important gathering.

It was the first time in the history of Buddhism that Buddhists (laity and sangha) from almost every sect in the globe were represented and gathered for the same goal: the advancement of Buddhism.

The 75th Anniversary Celebration of the WFB in Cambodia is expected to draw a significant audience of Buddhists and other interested individuals worldwide.
The event will include academic conferences, cultural performances, meditation sessions, and discussions on “Buddhism and Unity in Diversity,” reflecting the WFB’s efforts to promote peace, cooperation, and understanding among different cultures and religions.
Specifically, the event will be held at the Cambodian Buddhist Institute in Phnom Penh in May 2025. This Center for Buddhist Studies and Practice was established in 2006 and has become Cambodia’s leading Buddhist education and training institution.
The celebration of the WFB’s 75th anniversary in Cambodia is a significant milestone in the organization’s efforts to promote the teachings of Buddhism around the world.
Through this event, the WFB aims to foster a greater sense of unity and understanding among Buddhists from different backgrounds and promote the values of compassion, wisdom, and peace central to Buddhist teachings.
